Kim Bruguier is in her 13th year of teaching elementary music. Mrs. Bruguier teaches K-5 music/band at LB Williams Elementary in Mitchell, is the director for the Mitchell Area Children's Choir, and is the President for the South Dakota Music Education Association. She has been a clinician multiple times at the South Dakota Music Education Conference, the NAFME National conference in Dallas, the Technology In Education conference and at the South Dakota Arts Education Institute. She was recently selected as a presenter as well for the North Dakota Music Education Conference held in early 2020. Mrs. Bruguier has judged numerous vocal and band contests over the years and has directed both a SDMEA festival choir in the spring of 2018 as well as in 2019 was guest director for the Brookings Festival of Voices for middle school singers. She is also going to be a guest director for Middle School Festival Choir in April of 2020.
In 2011 she was awarded the South Dakota Outstanding Young Music Educator Award and in 2017 was selected as both the LB Williams and Mitchell School District Teacher of the Year.
Mrs. Bruguier was elected in 2016 to the president-elect position for the South Dakota Music Education Association and has worked tirelessly on her platform of opportunities for equitable and applicable professional development for music educators across the state. Because of this she started up in 2017 the SDMEA Summer session which is a yearly general music workshop where well known national clinicians are brought in for South Dakota music teachers. In addition, the summer of 2019 she brought in and hosted the GAMA Teaching Guitars Workshop, and in the summer of 2020 is slated to host the World Music Drumming Workshop. In January 2019 Mrs. Bruguier became conference manager for the State Music Education Conference where she worked to revamp the current Conference to be morecomprehensive to what music education in South Dakota looks like.
During the school year, in addition to her school position Mrs. Bruguier runs the Mitchell Area Children’s Choir, a local non-profit children’s choir that specializes in offering performance opportunities for area youth. The group has 3 times been selected as a National Anthem performance group for the Minnesota Twins at Target Field. They have also been a select performing group at the SD American Choral Directors Association Mid-Winter Conference, and at the SD Music Education Conference.
Mrs. Bruguier and her husband Lee have 2 children, Maddie and Amelia.
She loves testing out new technology and making crafts in her free time.
